Financial Times Widgets
![]() www.igoogle.com: search Financial Times • Web 2.0 • Widgets • Viral Marketing Challenge: Can the Financial Times reach out to users of Web2.0 homepages to create a sustained presence and increase links back to their website? The answer was to create a series of widgets, or small programmed applications, that users could add to their homepages such as Netvibes, Pageflakes, and iGoogle. Solution: Juxta Digital developed a series of widgets that could be installed on several Web2.0 homepages such as Netvibes and iGoogle. The widgets include an interactive search box of Financial Times stories from the main news website; users can enter a search term that will pull up the current stories, and set the number of stories, length and type of information returned. Users can create multiple boxes, each with a different search giving them the top stories for the day. Other widgets provide functionality for specific RSS feeds from Financial Times content – such as mergers and acquisitions, IPO news, or feeds of specific FT columnists. The new widgets provide more ways for FT readers to receive their important information and stay in touch with the brand, and have been an integral part of FT's successful drive to increase traffic to their websites. |
