Juxta Digital Gives Mag Devoted To Death New Life
New York, Thursday, June 12, 2008 –
Juxta Digital, a Web 2.0-focused new media agency, announced today the re-launch of the www.obti-mag.com website for Obit Magazine.
Obit Magazine was founded by Barbara and J. Robert Hillier and examines life through the lens of death, providing obituaries and commentary on the recently deceased. The magazine is promoting the new site with the slogan, Death Gets New Life.
The Hilliers engaged Juxta Digital to implement their new design concepts and provide enhanced functionality for the website. Juxta integrated the new designs into its content management system, Synopsa, allowing publishers and editors at the magazine to take advantage of functionality such as a searchable article database, user comments on articles, related articles, social bookmarking, article tagging and tag clouds, and other state-of-the-art features. Juxta Digital also provided functionality such as event management, photo galleries, discussion boards, HTML email newsletter management, and an ad banner rotation system, all integrated into a single, easy-to-use administration panel.
Obit Magazine takes both a whimsical and in-depth approach to death and dying. One specialty feature, “Died on the Same Day,” allows users to click through a daily calendar and compare death anniversaries of historical persons and celebrities. Features such as Died on the Same Day and articles on topics such as “Best Sendoff” and “Final Cut” take advantage of vivid photography as well as trenchant writing, user commentary, and occasionally video to create an experience that is as varied and rich as the topic itself.
Juxta Digital has created numerous content-based websites for publishers, including sites for Guideposts, BusinessWeek, The Academy of American Poets, The Paris Review, The Virginia Quarterly Review, Ploughshares, and The Financial Times. The latest site for Obit-Magazine extends Juxta Digital’s experience in bringing unique and engaging content to audiences in a modern, interactive medium.
